November - Happy Thanksgiving!

Coming Up: University of San Francisco College Outreach Program January 18, 2025

Each year at this time Novato Chess Club (HYA) acknowledges, and remembers the contribution of the great Saint Mary's College basketball 2006 - 2009 to education and the lives of over 1100 East Bay youth who attended our early college outreach program in 2008-09.

Diamon Simpson was the first young man that inspired us to believe that young people inspired younger people. Diamon transcends basketball beyond, on and off the court he is a shining example of being a good citizen.

On Janaury 18th, we begin our basketball College Outreach Program (COP) season at University of San Francisco (USF) and we are inviting you to the campus for a day of Inspired Wonder.

Young people and their parents are invited to the campus for a look back and a look forward on the history at USF, with a profound campus tour conducted by the great De la Salle Hall of Fame basketball coach, Frank Allocco. We hear the great USF and Chicago Bull Bill Cartwright speak on the importance of being goal oriented, we dine with the college students and the day is capped off by the USF vs Oregon State Men’s game. We need your help in making this happen.

We are inviting 100 parents and their children to participate in this event. Campus tour begins at 4:30 and the tip off is 7pm. A wonderful exploration of life on a college campus. We invite you and your 4-9th grader to experience this opportunity at University of San Francisco. We continue to “pay it forward,” and Novato Chess Club (HYA) are grateful to St Mary's College for acknowledging the work of Diamon in 2008-09

Please read these articles on the work of Hayward’s, Diamon Simpson and the inspirational difference he made on the lives of children, on and off the court:

We are still Sharing the Spirit: Paying it Forward (17 years later and counting.). Amen!
